SFB 1313 and SimTech jointly participated in the 3rd Stuttgarter Wissenschaftsfestival – the science festival of the city of Stuttgart – that took place from 11 to 22 October 2024. SFB 1313 showcased during three days, from 15 to 17 October 2024, a mini-porous-media-exhibition in the city hall Stuttgart.

Porous media are everywhere.

The exhibition was very well attended and a huge success. Many pupils and other interested visitors came to see our exhibiton. Many thanks go to the whole SFB 1313 team that helped on site and behind the scenes to organize and supervise the exhibition!

The mini-porous-media-exhibition consisted of three stations, explaining porous media and porous media processes:

  1. What are porous media: sample table with different porous media
  2. Examine porous structures: microscope table
  3. Porous media processes: digital and interactive exhibit "Below the surface"

SFB 1313 Exhibit: Below the Surface

Our digital exhibit "Below the surface" shows invisible porous media processes like flow, transport of dissolved salts, and the deformation of the soil that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Animated science illustrations show different weather and climate situations: the impact of rain or dryness for the soil and the atmosphere. The visitors can test their knowledge with a quiz and immerse themselves into the world of porous media.
