This short course is concerned with thermodynamic properties of aqueous electrolyte solutions with emphasis on salt solubility. The course covers the following topics:
- Summary of equilibrium relations
- Ansatz for the chemical potential of ionic species (as the driving force for salt precipitation)
- Phase diagrams of aqueous solutions
- Equilibrium conditions for weakly dissociating salts
- Equilibrium conditions for strongly dissociating salts
- solubility product
- solubility of various ionic species
Python notebooks for the Debye-Hückel model will be provided and a notebook for the solubility of salts will be developed during the course.
